Colon screening (via FIT test) is now publically-funded

In BC, for individuals 50-74, the BC Medicare plan will now pay for screening for colon cancer via a publically-funding fecal immunochemical tests (FIT). It is funded for patients once every 2 years. The FIT test is a stool test that screens for possible colon cancer: take the kit from lab, get a stool sample and bring it back. If the FIT test is positive, it helps let people know that further investigation may be warranted.

Annual flu vaccinations are now available for the season. The first vaccination day is October 23, 2012. If you are due for a shot, please contact the office to book an appointment.

Dr. Dan O'Connell and Dr. Joan Rosenberg share the 2012 award for Metchosin 'Citizens of the Year', in recognition of their many years of service to the community. Here they are on the stage at Metchosin Day, accepting the award from Mayor John Ranns and Councillor Moralea Milne

A presentation on rural medicine at the Metchosin Community Hall was successful with members of community filling the aisles of the small venue. Thanks to the many organizers and attendees who helped make it a success!

Victoria 8K road race

Victoria 8K road race
On Thanksgiving day, Dr. O'Connor used this special performance-enhancing-garment to reach his goal of a Top 80 finish in the Victoria 8K. By this, he means he was able to top the finish times of some of the 80-year-olds
While awaiting to start the new practice in Metchosin, Dr. O'Connor completed the Victoria 8K road race, through downtown Victoria.
